Another kind comment from you. Thank you.

That was a early post-high school reporting assignment for me, and an embarrassing moment reminded me what a rookie I was when, after having dinner at a Milwaukee restaurant with a couple of other reporters, I went to the cashier's to pay, unaware that I still had my napkin turned into my pants.

Had a couple of rookie moments during that Lakers/Bucks assignment. A handful of reporters went out to eat at some fancy restaurant in Milwaukee, one of them being Mal Florence of the L.A. Times. "Newsday!" he said when I introduced myself. "We OWN you!" Then after dinner, as we walked up to the cashier's to pay, someone pointed out that I still had my napkin tucked into my belt.

Well done John and I remember it well. I covered the Knicks during their back-to-back finals against the Lakers, losing in 71-72 and winning the next year. They clinched in L.A. in the sixth game. Those were the days of fewer teams and great rivalries --Frazier and Monroe vs West and Goodrich; Reed vs the Celtics' Cowens and the Bullets (remember that name) Unself. DeBusschere squaring off against Gus Johnson and Paul Silas. I loved watching all those guys play.
